The Rules of Thumb

• Normal case: every 2–3 months is sufficient—or if he really smells/is dirty.
• Water only is often completely sufficient for mud.
• Always dog shampoo: human shampoo has the wrong pH value.
• Exception: skin problems—then the vet determines the product and frequency.

Bathing without a fight: getting him used to it

1. Empty tub + treats = good place (several days, without water).
2. Put in a non-slip mat—slipping is the main reason for panic.
3. Lukewarm water, from the paws upwards, head last (or with a washcloth).
4. Lick mat with liverwurst on the wall—the game-changer.
5. Rinse thoroughly and towel dry; blow-dry only if he is used to it.
