Tierschutzhund eingewöhnen: Die 3-3-3-Regel
A rescue dog brings a history with it that you don't know. The first few weeks determine how safely it arrives with you.
The 3-3-3 Rule
- 3 Days: Survival mode — many barely eat, sleep a lot or seem „perfectly well-behaved“. Expect nothing, provide calm.
- 3 Weeks: Settling in — routines take hold, first personality traits emerge (including problem areas).
- 3 Months: Trust — now it is truly „your“ dog.
The first few weeks in practice
- Little program: no visitor parade, no dog training in week 1.
- Fixed rituals: same times for food, walks, rest — predictability is security.
- Double safety outdoors (harness + collar): rescue dogs are escape artists.
- Only build up alone time and training once it has settled in — then in mini-steps.
Structure for everyday life together — checklists, rituals, trackers — is provided by the Everyday Toolkit; the training foundation „Listens to Every Word“.
