Shedding in Dogs: Proper Brushing to Tackle Undercoat

In spring and autumn, most dogs shed their fur – the undercoat needs to come out. If you don't brush now, you risk matting and itchy skin (and hair everywhere).

The right tool for each coat type

• Short hair: Rubber nubs glove or soft brush – twice a week, daily during shedding.
• Long hair/dense undercoat: Undercoat brush or Coat King – carefully, do not "dig" in the same spot.
• Curly coat (e.g., Poodle): hardly any shedding, but comb regularly to prevent matting.

How brushing becomes cuddle time

Short sessions (5–10 min.), always in the direction of growth, sensitive areas (belly, hind legs, behind the ears) last and with treats. Stop before the dog has had enough – then he'll look forward to the next time.

Warning signs

Bald spots, dandruff, constant scratching or dull fur despite grooming → Vet (often nutrition or parasites).
