Hund baden: Wie oft ist richtig – und wie geht es ohne Drama?
Dogs need to be bathed much less frequently than many people think—too-frequent shampooing dries out the skin and disrupts its natural protective film.
The Rules of Thumb
- Normal case: every 2–3 months is sufficient—or if he really smells/is dirty.
- Water only is often completely sufficient for mud.
- Always dog shampoo: human shampoo has the wrong pH value.
- Exception: skin problems—then the vet determines the product and frequency.
Bathing without a fight: getting him used to it
- Empty tub + treats = good place (several days, without water).
- Put in a non-slip mat—slipping is the main reason for panic.
- Lukewarm water, from the paws upwards, head last (or with a washcloth).
- Lick mat with liverwurst on the wall—the game-changer.
- Rinse thoroughly and towel dry; blow-dry only if he is used to it.
