Sozialisierung bei Welpen: Die wichtigsten Wochen ihres Lebens
What a puppy learns to accept as normal between the 8th and 16th week will remain normal for him throughout his life. What he misses often frightens him later. These weeks are more important than any command.
What belongs on the list
- People: Children, seniors, beard, hat, rollator, umbrella
- Dogs: calm, confident adult dogs — not just puppy group chaos
- Environments: City, car, train, elevator, vet's office (just to say hello!)
- Sounds: Vacuum cleaner, thunderstorm (recording), construction site — start quietly
- Surfaces: Grating, parquet, gravel, water
The golden rule: Quality over quantity
Socialization doesn't mean "as much action as possible," but positive, measured encounters. The puppy is allowed to observe, evade, hide — he is never forced. An overwhelmed puppy learns only one thing: The world is scary.
And after that?
After week 16, nothing is lost — it just takes longer. The complete weekly checklist (what, when, how often, how to recognize overwhelm) is in the Puppy Quick Start Guide.
